The Institute „Dr Simo Milošević“ JSC Igalo is one of the largest institutions for rehabilitation and preventive medicine and thalassotherapy in the Southeastern Europe, with more than 70 years of tradition in health tourism.

In order to improve its core business activity – preventive medicine, the Institute started with application of a new healthcare technology – Membrane Plasmapheresis. Introduction of the new procedure has been approved by the National Commission for Quality and Safety in Healthcare of the Ministry of Health of Montenegro. In addition to the purchase of appliances, the Institute has also provided and equipped the room in compliance with recommendations for the conduction of apheresis. The staff consisting of one doctor and two nurses has been educated, and cooperation established with Prof. V. A. Voinov – a significant name in the field of preventive apheresis.

The apheresis procedure is safe, minimally invasive and without risk of any communicable disease, allergy reactions or additional immunizations of the body. From the view point of preventive medicine, such apheresis procedure is important, given that it safely removes products of metabolic, inflammatory and oxidative stress from the body, slows down the course of chronic diseases, prevents their complications and significantly stimulates rejuvenation of the body. Preventive application of apheresis procedures may find practical use in a wide range of diseases, like: metabolic syndrome, obesity, dyslipidemia, dysregulation of immune response, allergies, menopausal symptoms, detoxication of the body as a whole, as well as anti-aging treatments.

Given the epidemic proportions of chronic noncommunicable diseases in the world and in our country as well, this safe and minimally invasive apheresis procedure should take a significant place in their prevention, and thereby enhance and enrich the health tourism offer of Montenegro.
