Skadar Lake is situated at 30 km-distance from Podgorica, and is partially in Montenegro, and partially in Albania. It is not only the biggest lake in the Balkans, but also the only national park dominated by water and wetland ecosystems, having a surface area of more than 370 square kilometers.
It belongs to the group of hydrographic national parks, as its aquatorium is under protection. The lake itself is a cryptodepression lake, which means that some parts of its bottom are under the sea level.
The lake is full of islands and peninsulas, on which many historical traces and valuable cultural heritage are present.
